Take action against cancer this February
February is a significant month in the fight against cancer, with World Cancer Day on February 4th and Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month running throughout the month. At Evercare, we believe in raising awareness, encouraging proactive health checks, and supporting important fundraising initiatives.
Here’s what you need to know and how you can take action.
Why February Matters in Cancer Awareness
World Cancer Day – February 4th
World Cancer Day is a global initiative aimed at improving cancer awareness, prevention, and treatment. The theme for 2024, “Close the Care Gap,” focuses on ensuring everyone has access to the best possible care, no matter their circumstances. Find out more.
Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
Ovarian cancer is one of the deadliest cancers affecting women in Australia. Every day, five women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer, yet awareness remains low. Symptoms can be vague, making early detection difficult. Find out more.
Prioritising Your Health: Cancer Screenings & Check-Ups
The best way to fight cancer is through early detection and prevention. This month is a great reminder to check in on your health and ensure you’re up to date with important screenings, including:
✅ Cervical Screening Test – Every 5 years for women aged 25-74 to detect early signs of cervical cancer.
✅ Breast Screening –Mammograms for women aged 40+ (recommended every 2 years for women aged 50-74).
✅ Bowel Cancer Screening – A simple at-home test for Australians aged 50-74, mailed every two years.
✅ Skin Checks – Regular skin checks to monitor for changes that could indicate melanoma or other skin cancers.
If you’re due for a check-up, don’t wait. Make an appointment with your GP now to have this important discussion.
