Finding the right GP: Why it matters and how to change
Finding the right general practitioner (GP) is akin to finding a trusted partner in your healthcare journey. Your GP is not just a medical professional but a confidant, an advisor, and a partner in managing your health and well-being. At Evercare, we understand the importance of this relationship, which is why we encourage our patients to ensure you find the perfect fit.
Why does finding the right GP matter?
Every individual is unique, and so are their healthcare needs. A GP who understands your medical history, lifestyle, and preferences can provide personalised care tailored to your specific requirements.
Trust is another foundational component of any doctor-patient relationship. When you have confidence in your GP’s abilities and judgment, you are more likely to be open and honest about your health concerns, leading to better treatment outcomes.
We also know how important continuity of care is for managing chronic conditions and preventing health complications. By sticking with the same GP over time, you ensure consistency in your healthcare management and decision-making.
A good GP not only diagnoses and treats medical conditions but also serves as your advocate and support system. They help you navigate the healthcare system, coordinate specialist referrals, and provide emotional support during challenging times.
Why should you try a few doctors to find the best one for you?
Each GP has their own style of practicing medicine and communicating with patients. In addition to this, many GPs have areas of interest or specialised expertise. At Evercare we encourage you to find the doctor that you have a good rapport with, communicate well with and who you feel best understands you and your unique health needs and goals.
We understand it can be difficult to make a decision on which GP to see in the first instance. We do have a profile on each doctor (some also have videos) on our website, however a lot depends on how you feel when you meet. If after your appointment, you decide that the GP you saw is not the right fit for you, that is perfectly fine.
We encourage you to simply make an appointment with another doctor at our clinic if you find yourself in this circumstance. As a member, you will have no out of pocket fees for your visits, so you can come as many times as you need to to ensure you find the right fit.
Selecting a different doctor at Evercare
The doctors at Evercare want the best for our patients and know that your GP should be a personal selection that feels right for you. Our care team is happy to liaise as required to hand a patient over.
When you join Evercare, you initially will select a doctor to see and they become part of your Care Team. If you would like to see a different doctor after that, there are a few ways you can do so:
1. Change your Care Team: In the app you can go to your account > Care Team and select a different doctor. This will move any future appointments you make to the selected doctor as default and you will be moved to your selected doctor’s patient roll. You can also ask at the front desk or call the clinic to ask for your file to be associated with a different doctor.
2. Choose to book an appointment with a different GP: When you book an appointment in the app you can choose to stay with your default doctor, or to choose to see another doctor. Sometimes if your GP is on holidays or isn’t available, you may choose to temporarily see another GP. In this case you would select another GP as part of making an appointment and any results or requests will go back to your primary GP. If you want a more permanent change, we suggest you follow step 1 above.
At Evercare, we believe that finding the right GP is essential for your overall health and well-being. Your health and satisfaction are our top priorities, and we are here to support you every step of the way on your healthcare journey.
Choosing your Care Team is an easy process in the Evercare app, but please remember if at any time you want to speak to one of the team, you can call the clinic on 07 3608 1400.
