In Clinic vs. Telehealth: Finding the Perfect Balance

Gone are the days when a trip to the doctor’s office meant hours of waiting and inconvenience. With the rise of telehealth, accessing quality medical care has never been easier or more convenient. But amidst this digital transformation, the question arises: Should you opt for in-clinic appointments, virtual consultations, or a blend of both?

The Rise of Telehealth: Convenience at Your Fingertips

With telehealth, consulting with your GP from the comfort of your own home, without the hassle of commuting or waiting rooms has become a reality. Telehealth appointments offer unparalleled convenience, allowing patients to access medical care from anywhere with an internet connection. Whether you’re a busy professional, a parent juggling multiple responsibilities, or simply prefer the convenience of virtual consultations, telehealth provides a flexible solution to meet your healthcare needs.

The Benefits of Telehealth with a Personal Touch

With numerous telehealth-only options now available in Australia, the short wait times can seem appealing to tech-savvy patients, however, it comes at the cost of seeing a doctor you have a personal relationship with.

So, what about the personal touch that comes with in-person consultations? At Evercare, we don’t think you should be forced to choose between convenience and a GP you know and trust. We believe you can have short wait times, telehealth options and still see your regular GP.

We prioritise the GP patient relationship. That’s why we offer telehealth appointments, as standard, with GPs you can also see in person. By maintaining continuity of care, patients can enjoy the convenience of virtual consultations, while still benefiting from the familiarity and expertise of their regular GP. Whether it’s discussing ongoing health concerns, managing chronic conditions, or seeking preventive care, our GPs are here to provide personalised and comprehensive support, both online and in person. We’ve even had patients choose to use Evercare’s telehealth option when they have been overseas on holiday and need to consult with their regular GP. It’s convenience, enabled by technology, at its best!

Choosing your appointment type

When you have an easily available choice of telehealth or in clinic appointments, which one should you use?

Here’s a quick cheat sheet we have put together:

Telehealth Visits are ideal for:

  • Minor ailments
  • Script repeats
  • Discussing results
  • Routine check ups
  • Follow up appointments
  • When you’re on holiday or travelling for work

In person appointments are ideal for:

  • Complex medical issues
  • Vaccinations
  • Physical examinations
  • Wound care
  • Skin checks
  • Procedures

Please remember that your doctor and care team may from time to time suggest a different type of appointment for your specific need.

Do telehealth appointments cost more?

At Evercare, it won’t cost more to see your GP via telehealth, provided you’ve got an existing relationship. Medicare rebates are available for telehealth appointments if you have seen your GP in person (or a GP at the same clinic) in the last 12 months. We suggest seeing your GP in clinic at Evercare first, and then you can access unlimited no-gap appointments for both telehealth and in clinic consultations for your set monthly fee. Of course, if you want to use telehealth first and then come in clinic, you can do that too, you’ll just need to pay the standard Medicare fee for your consultation.  Find out more about how Evercare works.
